Vanderbilt faculty and researchers are looking for the “Achilles’ heel” of the cancer cells that survive initial chemotherapy. Michael King, chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, and Joshua D. Greenlee, graduate research fellow in biomedical engineering, are investigating whether a naturally occurring protein made in immune cells, called TRAIL, is effective in killing colon cancer cells.

Two Russ College students and one alumnus received prestigious fellowships – two received National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowships, and one was awarded an Ohio University Named Graduate Fellowship.

Josh Greenlee, who graduated in 2013 as Valedictorian of Alexander Local accepted an intern position at Eastman Chemical in Kingsport, Tennessee. Josh has presented the Alexander High School Chemistry Department with a $1000 donation in honor of his Chemistry teacher, Retiree Gary Dunfee.

Russ College chemical engineering junior Josh Greenlee recently clinched a spot in the highly competitive Society of Chemical Industry Scholars Summer Internship Program.
